Jericho
- The biblical name of Jericho is the “City of Palm trees”; its subtropical climate makes it an extraordinary garden, especially for winter vacation. It’s one of the oldest cities in the world. Jesus passed through Jericho when he met Zacchaeus.
Wadi Quilt Convent (St. Gorgeous)
- The Monastery of St. George is a monastery located in Wadi Quilt, on the way from Jerusalem to Jericho. It is still occupied by Orthodox monks and it is close to an old Roman Road from Jerusalem to Jericho. This Greek Orthodox monastery was built in the 5th century and was named St. George after the famous monk, Gorgias of Coziba, who lived at the site.
Mount of Temptation
- The Mount of the Temptation is an Orthodox monastery in the city of Jericho. It is built upon the summit of the Mount of Temptation, 350 meters above sea level. It is the place where Jesus Christ spent 40 days. Pilgrims used to take this long walk to reach the top of the mountain. In 1998 a cable car was built from Jericho's Tel Sultan to the level of the monastery by an Austrian-Swiss company for the assistance of tourists and pilgrims.
Qumran
- Qumran is an archaeological site in the West Bank. It is located on a dry area and is close to the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in the caves of this site between 1947-56.
Masada
- It’s one of the fortresses that was built by Herod the great, it lies just above the dead sea, the remains of Masada has storerooms, cisterns, bathhouses, palaces, synagogue and ritual baths.
Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea
- The Dead Sea is called also the Salt Sea. It is located between Jordan and Palestine and its surface is around 420 meters below sea level and is considered the lowest point on earth. The Jordan River is the only major water source flowing into the Dead Sea. Situated on the Dead Sea coast is Ein Gedi , a spring which is considered a nature reserve in the Holy Land.
Baptism Site (Jordan River)
- A few kilometers east of Jericho is the Jordan River.This is considered the place where John the Baptist performed the baptism of Jesus. It is one of the Middle East’s most important religious destinations.
